Gordon Birch

Gordon’s nationally recognized experience as a professional experiential education and adventure therapy dates back over 25 years, additionally one of the first professionals to be trained and certified in the field of Equine Assisted Growth and Learning.  During this time, Gordon developed and directed five clinically driven programs that evolved into one of the nation’s largest providers of Wilderness therapy and Equine Assisted Wellness.

 

As National Director of these programs, Gordon worked directly with multiple state and federal agencies and national accrediting organizations to establish both credibility and recognition for the therapeutic contributions of experiential education and adventure therapy.   During this time, Gordon successfully used these methods to help over 6,800 youth overcome behavioral and/or drug and alcohol issues.   Throughout his career, Gordon has continued to provide group and individual Equine Assisted Wellness programs in both the private and public sector.  

 

 As an 18 year officer in the Utah Army National Guard with two tours of active duty, Gordon developed a firsthand understanding of the unique therapeutic issues plaguing individuals suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  In collaboration with several colleagues, Gordon developed an Equine Assisted training program specifically for veterans returning from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.   One of the first of its kind, this program significantly reduces the symptoms and long-term effects of PTSD for many veterans. 

 

Gordon is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and a named member of the Crow Nation.  His love for the Native American community has driven him to dedicate years to providing Equine Assisted Learning and Wellness training to numerous Native American tribes throughout the United States.

 

Currently, Gordon provides Equine Assisted Learning and Wellness programs from a state of the art Equine facility in Southern Utah and when time permits, takes these programs to organizations throughout the Western United States.  He is an ordinary doting husband to his extraordinary wife, Shannon, and a devoted father to his children and an ever-expanding equine family.
